Research permit application form

History Home Page   ||   Site Index
IMPORTANT NOTE:
We have just learnt that the information below may be out of date, and that Research Permits are now issued by a different office. We will try to update this when we have confirmed the new details.

Researchers wishing to carry out research in Botswana will in many cases need a Research Permit from the Office of the President. Such researchers also need to be affiliated with an appropriate institution in Botswana; the most obvious choice is the University of Botswana, but the major Museums also qualify.

The following is an unofficial copy of the headings of a Research Application Form for Botswana. Applicants should normally have previously arranged some kind of affiliation with an institution in Botswana. The Guidelines for Research referred to here are no longer in general circulation, but government and other institutional research priorities may be seen in chapters of Robert K. Hitchcock, et al., Research for Development in Botswana (Gaborone: Botswana Society, 1989. 450pp. ISBN 99912-60-02-1). Envelopes sent to the Permanent Secretary, Office of the President should be marked 'Research Application'. Obviously e-mail addresses should also now be included.
