Most downloads are .ZIP compressed files. To open them, you will need an UNZIP program. The free Info-Zip unzip utility can be downloaded from this site:
| download unzip.exe |
This program is only 30KB and must be used from the command line. See our page on software for more information, and for where you can get more user-friendly (but larger) UNZIP programs.
See the Info-ZIP Licence for copyright status etc.
The complete set of Neil Parsons' Botswana History Pages, as at April 2002, as zip file (107 kB, unzips as set of HTML files).
See the on-line version. Here you can download the same document as an RTF file (zipped) ready for printing.
See the on-line version. Here you can download the same documents as either RTF or PDF files ready for printing.
Download or open the complete History Department Handbook, 2010-11, as PDF (Acrobat) file (389 kB). Until recently Department Handbooks were printed. They are now available only online. This handbook is in the same format as the previous printed handbooks, and if printed is 74 pp. It contains information on courses, regulations, staff etc. You can download and print your own copy, or search the file.
Some small programs of our own. They are not at all sophisticated but they do things for which we couldn't find any obvious existing free program, so you may possibly find them of interest. Source code is available on request.

Download hti (as zip file) (16 kB)
This is a small command-line utility for use with image files. It creates an HTML page which includes all the images (JPEG, GIF and PNG files) in the current directory (or, using a -s option, in the current directory and subdirectories). . This is useful if you have a lot of image files - rather than opening them one by one, you can create a page and then just scroll through it to see them all.
Thanks to J.Encarnacao for adding a couple of refinements.
